If you want to avoid getting mosquito bites, you can use an insect repellent cream. Going outside in the evening during the summer months can be really annoying, because there are usually all kinds of annoying little mosquitoes that also come out at night, and the love to gravitate to people and bit them to get their blood. The bites get swollen and itchy, and they can be incredibly irritating, because you always feel the need to be scratching them, which of course you shouldn’t because it could leave scars.
Natural Ingredients Work Best
If you are going to buy some, you should be looking for ones that are made with natural ingredients. Or, you can make your own that work just as well, but cost a lot less to use. There are a couple of ways that you can go about making your own. You can start out with a cream base that you can purchase from any soap making company. Or, you can get right down to the nitty gritty, and make your own right from scratch.
How To Make Your Own
It is really easy to make your own. First of all, you need to make a cream base. This is done using beeswax and lard. Simply melt lard with just enough beeswax to give it a little bit more solidity. Before the cream cools and sets, you will need to add the ingredients that repel mosquitoes. You should be using essential oils, such as citronella, eucalyptus, rosemary, and penny royal, and there are many other herbs and flowers you can use for home made lotion or cream. You can go online to find out more information about other ingredients you can also use to repel those annoying little insects.
If you are using the actual leaves and flowers from the healing plants, you will need to make your own essential oils by putting the herbs in a carrier oil such as rice bran oil, or even extra virgin olive oil, and letting them sit for a few weeks. Then, you will need to strain the leaves and flowers out. You can now make the cream, and add the oil to it. It is a lot easier to just go out and buy the essential oils already made, and it will save you a lot of time. While it is still in a melted state, add the essential oils, and pour the mixture into containers and allow to cool.
Your home made version is now ready to use. Whenever you go out and there are mosquitoes around, put the insect repellent cream on any part of your skin that is exposed, and the mosquitoes won’t be bothering you anymore.
