Leg warmers are coverings that are used on the lower legs. They are fairly similar to socks, but much thicker and typically are footless. While they were originally worn by ballet and other dancers as dancewear, they have been though to provide warmth to the lower calf for dancers. Leg warmers were extremely popular in the early 1980’s as it was a fashionable icon for teenage girls.
